'The Health and Safety Policy is the starting point when managing Health and Safety in the Workplace and sets out how you manage health and safety in your organisation. It is a unique document that shows who does what; and when and how they do it'.

More than 4 employees?
If you have more than 4 employees then you must have a written health and safety policy under the Health and Safety at Work act 1974.

The Format of your Health and Safety Policy
When developing your Health and Safety Policy we will construct it into 3 Sections:

  • Statement of Intent. This section will outline in broad terms the Organisations overall philosophy and methods of managing Health and Safety specific to your company.
  • Organisation. This section will identify whom is responsible to whom and some of the areas identified include:
  • Organisational Chart
  • Individual Responsibilities for each job title within the organisation and specific safety responsibilities which are associated.
  • Safety Committees (Roles and Functions)
  • Audit Team (Members and Functions)
  • Other Persons including Visitors
  • Contractors and Self Employed
  • Arrangements.This part of the policy shows the practical means by which Health and Safety is managed and implemented within the organisation. Some of the areas included are:
